About Thin Film Oven and Loss on Heating Oven

Thin Film Oven / Loss on Heating Oven :

Thin Film Oven test is conducted for determining the effect of the heat and air on asphaltic material as per the requirements of IS: 9382. Loss on Heating test is conducted for determining the loss in weight of bitumen and flux-oils on heating as per the requirements of IS: 1212. The Oven is having a double walled Internal Chamber of 400mm x 400mm x 400mm (16 x 16 x 16) made of Stainless Steel and External Body made of Mild Steel Sheet (Powder Coated Paint) or Stainless Steel Sheet with glasswool insulation between the chambers. The Oven is having range from ambient plus 10C to 200C and fitted with variable digital temperature controller to maintain temperature at 163C + 1C. An external motor with shaft is fitted to rotate the platform at a speed of 5 to 6 rpm and also an Air Circulating Fan to maintain the sensitivity of + 1C in the test chamber. The Door of the Oven body is fitted with toughened glass for viewing the samples during the test.

Precise Temperature Control for Reliable Bitumen Testing

This oven offers highly accurate temperature management, essential for bitumen testing. The digital temperature controller allows precise adjustments, maintaining temperatures between ambient and 200C with fine control. The insulated chamber, combined with forced air convection, ensures stable, uniform heat throughout the specimen area, helping achieve repeatable, trustworthy results in every test cycle.

User-Centric Design for Efficient Laboratory Workflow

The easy-to-use digital timer and interface streamline procedures, enabling operators to set up and monitor experiments efficiently. The insulated door provides thermal security while the glass window offers unobstructed observation without disturbing the test process. Robust construction supports frequent laboratory use and the compact, table-top design fits seamlessly into varied research environments.

Safety and Durability Built Into Every Feature

Safety is prioritized with an over-temperature cut-off function, preventing potential hazards. The ovens double-walled structure, combined with glass wool insulation, achieves superior thermal efficiency. Powder-coated mild steel exterior resists corrosion and ensures long-term durability, making it a sound investment for laboratories performing regular bitumen analysis.

FAQs of Thin Film Oven and Loss on Heating Oven:

Q: How does the Thin Film Oven and Loss on Heating Oven maintain uniform temperature during bitumen testing?

A: Uniform temperature is achieved through a forced air convection system paired with a motorized blower and tubular air heating element. This setup circulates heated air evenly throughout the chamber, ensuring consistent thermal conditions for all specimens during testing.

Q: What is the process for performing bitumen loss on heating tests using this oven?

A: To conduct the test, place standard bitumen specimens (140 mm diameter pans) in the oven chamber. Set the desired temperature (up to 200C) and timer using the digital controller. Monitor the specimens through the glass window, and once the timer ends, analyze the loss on heating in accordance with laboratory procedures.

Q: When should I use the over-temperature cut-off feature, and how does it enhance safety?

A: The over-temperature cut-off automatically activates if the oven exceeds the set temperature threshold. It protects both operators and specimens, preventing overheating and possible hazards, especially during prolonged testing cycles or unattended operations.

Q: Where is this oven ideally suited for installation and usage?

A: This oven is designed for laboratory settings, particularly in facilities conducting bitumen testing. Its table-top, compact construction allows installation on standard laboratory workbenches, making it suitable for research institutes, civil engineering labs, and material testing centers.

Q: What benefits does the digital timer and temperature controller provide to laboratory technicians?

A: The digital timer allows precise control over testing duration, ranging from 0 to 999 minutes. Combined with the digital temperature controllers accurate adjustments, technicians can reliably replicate testing procedures, enhance workflow efficiency, and minimize human error.

Q: How many specimens can be tested simultaneously in this oven and what are their size specifications?

A: The oven is designed to accommodate two specimens using standard pans measuring 140 mm in diameter and 9.5 mm in depth. This ensures compliance with bitumen testing requirements and efficient sample handling during analysis.
