About Ice Plant Trainer

Ice Plant Test Rig

DESCRIPTION

The unit enables the students to study the Basic Principals of ice plant cycle within a short period. The test rig is designed for the study of thermodynamics of vapour Compression refrigeration cycle by way of demonstration and experimentation. It has a facility to measure various parameters for experimentation. Ice cans are kept in liquid tank, which is cooled by the refrigerant evaporator. As conventional ice plants take 12-24 hours to complete the cycle, this ice plant is specially designed to demonstrate process of ice formation to be complete within period of 4 hours and hence it is most suitable for laboratory use.

EXPERIMENTATION

  • To study the working of Ice Plant.
  • To Study the refrigerator circuit.
  • To Calculate Co-efficient of performance

UTILITIES REQUIRED

  •  Electric supply : Single Phase, 220V AC, 50 Hz, 10 Amp with earth connection .
  •  Water supply and drainage
  •  Floor area : 1.5 m x 1m
  • Ethyl Glycolet: 25 Ltr.

Robust Construction and Moveability

Built with a powder coated mild steel frame, the Ice Plant Trainer ensures durability and resistance to corrosion. The integrated castor wheels make relocating the equipment within laboratory spaces effortless, supporting flexible learning environments and easy maintenance routines.

Advanced Instrumentation for Accurate Measurements

Equipped with digital/analog indicators, pressure gauges, and temperature sensors, the trainer delivers real-time data for system monitoring. These precise instruments facilitate COP determination and energy calculations, enhancing students practical understanding of refrigeration systems.

FAQs of Ice Plant Trainer:

Q: How does the Ice Plant Trainer demonstrate the refrigeration cycle and ice formation process?

A: The trainer visualizes the complete refrigeration cycle by using a hermetically sealed compressor, air-cooled condenser, and a brine tank evaporator with immersion coil. As the refrigerant circulates, it absorbs heat from the brine, lowering the temperature and facilitating ice formation in trays or cubes, all observable through instrument panels that measure pressure and temperature.

Q: What are the main benefits of using this Ice Plant Trainer in a laboratory setting?

A: This equipment allows students to study the working principle of ice plants, perform energy and COP calculations, and investigate real-time temperature and pressure measurements. Its mobility and robust structure make it ideal for repeated use and demonstration in educational facilities.

Q: When and where is this Ice Plant Trainer most suitably employed?

A: It is best suited for use in refrigeration and air conditioning laboratory environments, particularly during practical lessons or research sessions that require demonstration of ice plant operations and performance analyses within higher educational institutions.

Q: What safety features does the Ice Plant Trainer include to ensure safe operation?

A: Safety is maintained through integrated overload protection and pressure cut-out mechanisms. These features prevent equipment damage and protect users from potential hazards caused by overpressure or electrical overload situations.

Q: How is the equipment operated and controlled during laboratory experiments?

A: The Ice Plant Trainer provides both manual and semi-automatic control modes. Users can adjust gas pressure, set operating parameters, and monitor system performance through panel-mounted analog/digital indicators and instantaneous display instruments.

Q: What is the typical ice formation time and batch capacity for this trainer?

A: Depending on model specifications, the trainer forms ice in approximately 60 to 120 minutes per batch, with each batch holding a capacity of 4 to 8 litres distributed in standard ice trays or cubes.
