About FALLING FILM EVAPORATOR APPARATUS

The present set-up is designed to study theoperation of Falling Film evaporator. It consists of stainless steel tubes surroundedby a Stainless Steel jacket and fitted with accumulator. Dilute solution is fedto tube from the top and it travels along the inner walls of the tubes todownward which is heated by Steam from a steam generator to concentrate thedilute feed solution to a desired level.

The jacket is fitted with a steam trap and thecondensate is collected at the end of trap. The vapors of volatile solvent arecondensed in a shell & tube type condenser and the balance non-volatilesolute collected in the accumulator recycled back to the evaporator.

Object:

To concentrate a solution and to evaluate thefollowing at steady state:

Economy and the capacity of the evaporator.

Overall heat transfer co-efficient.

Required: -

Electricity Supply: 1 Phase, 220 V AC, 50 Hz, 32 ampMCB with earth connection (Earth voltage should be less than 5 volts)

Water Supply: Initial fill and floor drain.

Floor area: 1.5 m x 1.0 m.
