About Grain Size Analysis Apparatus

Grain Size Analysis App., Pipette method:

  • This is for the determination of their sub sieve particle distribution in a soil sample by mechanical analysis. An analysis of this kind expresses quantitively the proportions by weight of the various sizes of particles present in the soil. It is recommended as a standard procedure to use dispersion agent to avoid floculation.

Specifications:

  • The apparatus consists of a sliding panel which moves up and down by means of a screw allowing Anderson pipette fixed to it to be raised or lowered vertically.
  • A sedimentation tube is held by a laboratory clamp provided on the stand below the pipette. The depth of immersion is measured by a scale graduate in mm at the side of the sliding panel.
  • Supplied complete with Anderson pipette 10 ml. at the side capacity made from glass, and a sedimentation tube also of glass of 500 ml capacity and 50 Nos Test forms.

Accessories and Spares:

1) Sedimentation pipette (Anderson pipette) 25 ml.
2) Sedimentation tube 1000 ml.
3) Sedimentation pipette 10 ml.
4) Sedimentation tube 500 ml.
5) Test forms pad of 50.

Precision Construction for Reliable Results

Crafted with woven stainless steel mesh and durable brass or steel frames, each sieve ensures minimal mesh deviation according to international standards. Designed to offer corrosion resistance and durability, the apparatus facilitates accurate grading even with regular usage.

Flexible and User-Friendly Operation

The set can be used manually or paired with eclectic/mechanical sieve shakers. Each sieve fits securely with the lid and receiver, supporting sample capacities from 500 g up to 1 kg. Assembly and disassembly are straightforward, aiding rapid cleaning and preparation between tests.

Ideal for Laboratory and Field Applications

Compact and portable, the apparatus is easy to transport between sites. Its non-reliance on electrical components ensures convenient use in various settings. The grain size distribution is determined by manual weighing post-sieving, streamlining data capture for soil testing professionals.

FAQs of Grain Size Analysis Apparatus:

Q: How do I use the Grain Size Analysis Apparatus for soil testing?

A: To use the apparatus, place your soil or grain sample (up to 1 kg) in the top sieve, stack sieves in descending order of mesh size, secure with lid and receiver, then manually shake or use a compatible mechanical shaker. After sieving, weigh the residue on each sieve to determine grain size distribution.

Q: What types of tests is this apparatus suitable for?

A: This Grain Size Analysis Apparatus is designed for precise grain size distribution analysis, particularly for soil testing as per IS:2720 (Part IV), ASTM E11, and BS:410 standards. It is used for quality control, soil classification, and geotechnical investigations.

Q: When should I clean or maintain the sieves?

A: Sieves should be cleaned after every use to prevent cross-contamination between samples. The detachable design allows easy removal and cleaningsimply disassemble, wash the mesh and frame, allow to dry, and reassemble when needed.

Q: Where can I use the Grain Size Analysis Apparatus?

A: The apparatus is suitable for laboratory and field environments. Its portable and manual design means it doesnt require electricity, making it versatile for use in various soil testing locations, especially where power may not be available.

Q: What are the benefits of stainless steel woven wire mesh and brass/steel frames?

A: Stainless steel mesh provides accurate and consistent sieving with corrosion resistance, while polished brass or steel frames offer mechanical strength. This combination ensures long apparatus life and reliable gradation even with frequent washing and use.

Q: Does this setup require any electrical power or displayhow are results obtained?

A: This apparatus operates manually and does not require electricity or display screens. After sieving, results are manually obtained by weighing the residue trapped on each sieve, allowing calculation of particle size distribution.

Q: What is the sample capacity and measurement range for this sieve set?

A: The apparatus can accommodate samples from 500 g up to 1 kg, and the sieves cover a size range from 4.75 mm to 75 microns, making them ideal for a wide scope of soil and grain gradation tests.
